Outside The Chute sits down and chats with former Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia native, now Grand Forks, North Dakota native and ISC Hall of Famer, Gerald Muizelaar.
Muizey is an 8 time ISC All World selection, 3 time ISC Most Outstanding Pitcher, has 3 ISC World Titles and a Canadian Senior Men’s National Title in 1998 just to name a few.
We’re going to talk to Gerald about getting his start in Shubenacadie and guys he would have played with growing up along the way. The amazing run at the 1993 Canada Games with Team Nova Scotia, winning the National Title on home soil with the Halifax Jaguars in 1998, as well as his storied ISC career which launched him into the Hall of Fame in 2019.
Muizey has now taken on a roll as pitching coach with Softball USA on the Men’s National Team and we’ll also find out his thoughts on that transition.
It was awesome to catch up with Muizey and talk about his illustrious career, I’m sure you’re all going to enjoy this interview.

Outside The Chute sits down and chats with former Arizona Wildcat pitching star, Espy Award winner and current Arizona Assistant Coach, Taryne Mowatt-McKinney.
Taryne’s list of accompishments at U of A are extensive as she holds or shares 8 school pitching records, including wins, innings pitched and strikeouts in a season. She helped the Wildcats to back to back National Championships in 2006 and 2007 and will forever be remembered for the amazing 2007 Women’s College World Series where she pitched 60 innings with 76 strikeouts and four shutouts to take home the National title, along with the most outstanding player award. A few weeks later she would win the 2007 Female Athlete of the Year at the Espy Awards becoming the only softball player to ever pull off that feat.
We’re gonna talk to Taryne about that epic year, along with how she got started in the game, a fantastic story on how she got that amazing dress for the Espys, and now her love for coaching at U of A.
Taryne was an absolute treat to talk to and one of my favorite interviews so far.

Outside The Chute sits down and talks with Nanaimo, BC native and Team Canada Member, Blake Hunter.
Blake has emerged into one of the best hitter’s in the country. He is a 3 time All Canadian, was named to the 2017 All World Team at the ISC, won a silver medal at the 2005 Canada Games, and a 2 time silver medalist at the Canadian Senior Men’s Nationals.
We’re gonna talk to Blake about getting his start in the game in BC, playing at the 2005 Canada Games, moving to NS for a season and playing with the Murphys Eagles, as well as, some great stories from the 2017 WBSC World’s in Whitehorse.
Blake was a treat to chat with and we had some great laughs on this episode.

Outside The Chute sits down and talks with former Team Canada member and PEI Native, Jeff Ellsworth.
Ellsy has a long list of accomplishments in the game which include 5 ISC World Titles, 2 Canadian Senior Men’s Titles, 3 Time ASA Champion, an ISF Champion in 2015, 6 time All Canadian, 5 Time All World Team, and an ISC World Tournament MVP, just to name a few.
We’re going to talk to Ellsy about getting his start in the game on the Island, starting on the Senior circuit with the Summerside Twins, playing his first ISC’s with the Wes-Man Alliance out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, as well as, his time with the Hill United Chiefs which still continues to this day in a GM role.
This was a great talk with arguably PEI’s most decorated Fastpitch player ever and one of the best this country has ever produced.

Outside The Chute sits down and talks with former Syracuse University star and Team Canada Member, Jenna Caira.
Jenna had a tremendous career at Syracuse University where she holds 11 pitching records, was the first to have over a 1000 strikeouts and was named Big East Pitcher of the Year in 2011. From there Jenna would go on and continue to have a fantastic career with the Canadian Women’s National Team as she was a key member of that PanAm Gold medal winning team that defeated the Americans in 2015 on home soil in Toronto and is now looking to bring home the gold from Tokyo at the 2021 Olympics.
We’re gonna talk to Jenna about getting her start in the game at a young age, her time at Syracuse, the feeling of getting named to Team Canada, as well as her time on the set of the hilarious show Mr D and taking on Todd Martin as her pitching coach.
Jenna was an absolute pleasure to talk too and you’ll find out why she is a true leader on and off the field.

Outside The Chute sits down and talks with Bracebridge, Ontario native and ISC Hall of Famer, Todd Martin.
Marty’s list of accomplishments in the game are astounding as he has won 6 ISC World Titles, 5 Canadian Senior Men’s Nationals, he has been named to the ISC All World team nine times, and a three time outstanding pitcher at the ISC’s just to name a few.
We’re gonna talk to Marty on getting his start in his hometown of Bracebridge, moving on to play at the Senior level, his storied ISC career, being inducted into the ISC Hall of Fame, as well as much more, including being the pitching coach to Canadian Women’s National Team member, Jenna Caira.

Outside The Chute sits down and talks with Melfort, Sask native and ISC Hall of Famer, Dean Holoien.
Deano has a long list of accomplishments that started back in Bantam, when the Melfort 222’s would win the Bantam, Midget and Junior Nationals. From there Dean would go on to have a storied career that would include 4 Canadian Senior Men’s National Titles, 2 ASA National Titles, and an ISC World Title. Deano would also represent Canada where he won a silver and bronze at the ISF World Championships.
He is a 6 time All World player at the ISC’s, 5 time All Canadian at Senior Nats, was the MVP of the 2009 ISC World’s and was inducted into the ISC Hall of Fame in 2015.
We’re gonna talk to Deano about growing up in Melfort and getting his start in the game, his first Senior Nats win with the Edmonton Express in 1999, that amazing 2009 where Kitchener would win the ISC World’s and Canadian Senior Nats, but also have a set back to hosts, Randy Frame, Chris Hopewell and the Brookfield Elks at that Nationals.
Deano was a fantastic interview and it was great to dive into his illustrious career and hear some great stories. You guys can also hear Dean, along with Keith MacIntosh and Donnie Atkinson on their podcast called 222’s Talk based out of Saskatchewan, as they do a fantastic job promoting this great game as well.

Outside The Chute sits down and chats with Canadian Women's National Team Head Coach, Mark Smith.
Mark is an absolute legend when it comes to the game of Fastpitch and he is inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame, ISC Hall of Fame and the Sport Nova Scotia Hall of Fame.
Mark’s accomplishments are extensive. He was the first player to ever throw a no hitter in Pan Am Games history in 1979, won back to back ISC World Titles in 81 and 82 with the Camarillo Kings, led Team Canada to an ISF World Series of Softball Championship in the Philippines in 1992 as well as captured that illusive Gold Medal at the 1998 Canadian Senior Men’s Nationals with the Halifax Jaguars in his final season of playing.
We’re going to talk to Mark about all of these accomplishments, as well as getting his start in the game on the Halifax Commons, having a tryout with the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball and now trying to lead the Canadian Woman’s National Team to a Gold Medal at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Mark was such a treat to talk to really shows why he such an ambassador to the game of Fastpitch.
